Bereits im Jahr 2019, also kurz nach Fertigstellung ihres Albums Hey!, machte sich die Band daran neues Material für ein weiteres Album zu schreiben. Eigentlich wollte man sich selbst treu bleiben und sich thematisch wie gewohnt an den Abgründen des menschlichen Seins orientieren. War, Hey! Angesichts der Geschehnisse die da durch die Corona Pandemie folgten schon beinah prophetisch und in seiner eigenen Art bedrückend, so war das nun neue Material gerade in der nun anstehenden Zeit, eben eher unpassend und nicht Zeitgemäß. So kam die Band an einen Punkt, an dem man sich fragen musste, ob man wirklich in so schweren Zeiten noch mehr auf die Finsternis der menschlichen Seele eingehen will. Was nun geschah, setzte einen Wendepunkt in der dreißigjährigen Karriere der Formation aus Potsdam, die da nun unter dem Namen Himmelfahrt das Licht der Welt erblickt. So verwarf man alle bis Dato geschaffenen musikalischen und besonders textlichen Ideen und erschuf ein Album, welches von Hoffnung erfühlt ist, und über selbige berichtet. Dennoch trägt auch Himmelfahrt einen gewissen Wehrmutstropfen in sich, denn schaut man auf die Welt von heute, ist gerade die Hoffnung wohl eines der vielen wenigen Dinge die uns noch bleiben. Ansonsten ändert sich aber nichts. Subway to Sally sind und bleiben eben Subway to Sally. So bekommt der Fan und Hörer, genau das was er erwartet. Treibende Rhythmen. Knallharte Riffs. Instrumentale Ausflüge, die beinah an Perfektion grenzen und eine Band, die genau dies in ihrer unverwechselbaren Art und Weise wiedergeben. Wie bereits erwähnt, handeln die neuen Stücke, und auf Himmelfahrt gibt es dieser gleich zwölf, vom Aufbruch und der Reise in eine hoffentlich bessere Zeit. Doch angesichts der jüngsten Geschehnisse auf unserer wunderschönen Welt kommt auch das neue Material nicht ohne Mahnungen aus. So meldet sich Gott selbst zu Wort und macht seinem Unmut und seiner Enttäuschung, über sein eigen Werk, Luft. Subway to Sally schaffen es erneut den Hörer in ihren Bann zu ziehen und ihn über die gesamte Spielzeit des Albums bestens zu unterhalten. So darf man sich auf Songs wie, „Was ihr wollt“, „Leinen los“ oder „Weit ist das Meer“ genauso freuen wie auf solche Kracher wie „Eisbrecher“, die Ballade „So tief“ oder eben dem schon beinah theatralisch anmutenden „Gott spricht“, freuen. Already in 2019, shortly after the completion of their album Hey!, the band started to write new material for another album. Actually, you wanted to stay true to yourself and orient yourself thematically as usual to the abysses of human existence. was hey In view of the events that followed as a result of the Corona Pandemic, which was almost prophetic and depressing in its own way, the new material was rather inappropriate and not up-to-date, especially in the time that was now coming up. So the band got to a point where you had to ask yourself if you really want to go into the darkness of the human soul even more in such difficult times. What happened next was a turning point in the thirty-year career of the formation from Potsdam, which now sees the light of day under the name of Himmelfahrt. So they discarded all musical and especially lyrical ideas created to date and created an album that is filled with hope and reports on it. Nevertheless, Ascension Day also carries a certain downer, because if you look at the world today, hope is probably one of the few things that remain with us. But otherwise nothing changes. Subway to Sally are and will always be Subway to Sally. So the fan and listener gets exactly what he expects. Driving rhythms. Hard riffs. Instrumental excursions that almost border on perfection and a band that reproduce exactly this in their unmistakable way. As already mentioned, the new pieces are about, and there are twelve of them on Ascension Day, about departure and the journey to hopefully better times. But in view of the recent events in our beautiful world, the new material does not come without warnings. So God himself speaks up and gives vent to his displeasure and disappointment with his own work. Subway to Sally once again manage to captivate the listener and keep him entertained throughout the album's playing time. So you can look forward to songs like "What you want", "Leinen los" or "Weit ist das Meer" as well as to such hits as "Eisbrecher", the ballad "So Tief" or the almost theatrical " God speaks", rejoice.
