Es gibt Geschichten, die kann nur das Leben selbst schreiben. Eine dieser Geschichten ereignete sich in den frühen 80’er Jahren. Die finnische Glam/Hard Rock Band, Hanoi Rocks startete ihre Karriere Anfang der 80’er. Nach ihrem Debüt von 1981, Bangkok Shocks Shakes Hanoi Rocks, produzierte die Band ihr zweites Album mit Namen, Oriental Beat. 1981, der Punk und der New Wave Generation feiern ihr glanzvollsten Zeiten im damaligen England. Genau hier, mitten in London produzierte die Band unter der Leitung des im Rockgeschäft unerfahrenen Produzenten, Peter Wooliscroft, also ihr zweites Album. Die Band selbst, und hier besonders Schlagwerker, Gyp Casino, sagten aus, das sie besonders zu dieser Zeit wirklich Herz und Seele gaben um ihre Produktionen dann auch tatsächlich so herüber zu bringen, wie sie sie fühlten. Leider konnte ihr Produzent selbiges aber nicht umsetzen und mischte das Werk nach seinem besten Wissen und Können ab. Das Endergebnis klang dann aber leider eher nach Spandau Ballet als nach einer jungen aufstrebenden Hardrock Band, die nur wenige Zeit später ihren großen Durchbruch in der Szene feiern sollten. Sami Yaffa, Bassist und Sänger Michael Monroe sagen noch heute, das dies das schlechteste Album der Bandgeschichte war. Nachdem das Album veröffentlicht war, verschwanden die Mastertapes, sodass es unmöglich war noch etwas am Album zu ändern. Zusätzlich erschwert wurde neue mögliche Neuproduktion, zusätzlich durch die Situation, das, dass damalige Label der Band finanziell am Ende waren. So wurde Oriental Beat also veröffentlicht, obwohl man selbst mit dem Ergebnis keinesfalls zufrieden war. Der Erfolg blieb dennoch nicht aus und Hanoi Rocks stiegen zu einer der populärsten Hardrock Bands ihrer Zeit auf und feierten so große Erfolge. Just in unseren Tagen, genau 40 Jahre nach der Veröffentlichung des Albums im Jahr 1982 tauchten wie durch Zauberhand die damals verschollenen Mastertaps wieder auf. Endlich hatte die Band die Möglichkeit ihrem Klassiker den nötigen Sound und Schliff zu verpassen, der diesem Werk gebührt. In mühseliger Kleinarbeit überarbeitete man das Material. Michael Monroe bezeichnet die Arbeit am Neu Mix des Albums als die schwerste und längste Arbeit, die je eine Produktion, der er beiwohnte mit sich brachte. Gründer, Nasty Suicide äußert sich zur Neuveröffentlichung mit den Worten, „erst jetzt, nach dem Neu Mix, der Reduzierung auf das Nötigste und einer aufwendigen Optimierung, klingt das Album nach dem, nachdem es von Anfang an hätte klingen sollen. Nun also ist es endlich soweit und Oriental Beats erhält zum 40. Geburtstag endlich die Veröffentlichung die es verdient. Und der werte Fan und Hörer bekommt eine der wichtigsten Bands der Szene noch einmal völlig frisch klingend präsentiert und darf sich am Re-Re-Mix in Form von CD, Vinyl und auf Stream freuen. Also worauf noch warten? Lassen wir Hanoi Rocks erneut aufleben und feiern wir den Geburtstag eines Albums mal mit einer Neuveröffentlichung… Rock on!
There are stories that only life itself can write. One of these stories happened in the early 80's. Finnish glam/hard rock band, Hanoi Rocks started their career in the early 80's. Following their 1981 debut, Bangkok Shocks Shakes Hanoi Rocks, the band went on to produce their second named album, Oriental Beat. 1981, the punk and new wave generation celebrate their heyday in what was then England. It was here, in the heart of London, that the band produced their second album under the direction of inexperienced producer Peter Wooliscroft. The band themselves, and particularly drummers, Gyp Casino, said they really put their heart and soul into getting their productions across the way they felt, particularly at this time. Unfortunately, their producer could not implement the same and mixed the work to the best of his knowledge and ability. Unfortunately, the end result sounded more like Spandau Ballet than like a young up-and-coming hard rock band that would celebrate their big breakthrough in the scene only a short time later. Sami Yaffa, bassist and singer Michael Monroe still say today that this was the worst album in the band's history. After the album was released, the master tapes disappeared, making it impossible to change anything on the album. In addition, new possible new productions were made more difficult, also by the situation that the band's label at the time was financially dead. That's how Oriental Beat was released, although they were by no means satisfied with the result. However, success was not lacking and Hanoi Rocks rose to become one of the most opulent hard rock bands of their time and celebrated great success. Just in our day, exactly 40 years after the release of the album in 1982, the back then appeared as if by magic lost master taps again. The band finally had the opportunity to give their classic the necessary sound and polish that this work deserves. The material was revised in painstaking detail work. Michael Monroe describes the work on remixing the album as the hardest and longest work on any production he has attended. Founder, Nasty Suicide, comments on the new release with the words, "only now, after the remix, the reduction to the bare essentials and a complex optimization, does the album sound like it should have sounded from the beginning. So now the time has finally come and Oriental Beats is finally getting the release it deserves for its 40th birthday. And the valued fan and listener gets one of the most important bands of the scene presented sounding completely fresh and can look forward to the re-re-mix in the form of CD, vinyl and stream. So what are you waiting for? Let's revive Hanoi Rocks and celebrate an album's birthday with a re-release... Rock on!
