SIRENIA – 1977

Release Date : 26.05.2023
Genre : Symphonic Metal
Rezension by Fenria Streetteam Berlin

Twenty years after their founding, Sirenia prove their skills with their eleventh album, called 1977, and once again make it clear that they have more than earned their place in the upper echelons of symphonic metal. In 2023 they are more willing to experiment than ever before, and yet the band from Norway never loses sight of their strengths. The formation around mastermind, band leader, multi-instrumentalist, composer and songwriter Morten Veland combines late seventies and eighties pop rock with synthwave elements and at the same time ensures with an unmistakable, hard symphonic sound that the essence of Sirenia is always preserved. Ten new compositions plus a bonus track in the form of a cover version of the classic, Twist in my Sobriety, by Tanita Tikaram from 1988 are more than convincing. The album kidnaps the willing listener into a world of symphonic and classical elements that skilfully unite the individual decades and thus create a completely new symbol. The quality with which the musicians celebrate here, led by mastermind Morten Veland and the unmistakable front woman, Emmanuelle Zoldan, clearly shows why Sirenia have been at the forefront of the scene for so many years. So 1977 is certainly not just an album for the band's die-hard fans, but also for the countless lovers of the scene. We therefore recommend the current album and give it ten out of ten points.
