Das Comeback der finnischen Melodic Metal Vorreiter BEFORE THE DAWN!
Nach ihrer zehnjährigen Pause meldet sich die finnische Melodic Death Metal Band BEFORE THE DAWN zurück! Gegründet 1999, waren BEFORE THE DAWN eine der erfolgreichsten finnischen Metal Bands der frühen 2000er Jahre. Obwohl sie 2013 das Projekt auf Eis gelegt haben, wurde ihre Musik von hunderttausenden neuen Fans auf Streaming-Plattformen entdeckt, ganz ohne Promotion oder den Support eines Labels. Ob die Musik die Leute gefunden hat oder die Leute die Musik ist nicht zusagen, aber nach fast einem Jahrzehnt beenden BEFORE THE DAWN nun ihre Pause und kehren mit dem neuen Studioalbum Stormbringers zurück - und das stärker denn je! Ursprünglich war die Band ein Soloprojekt des finnischen Metal Award-Gewinners Tuomas Saukkonen (Wolfheart), doch im Laufe der Jahre gab es mehrere Besetzungswechsel. Mit einem gänzlich neu aufgestellten Lineup steht die Band aktuell vor ihrer bisher größte Veränderung. Der frühere Gitarrist und Sänger Saukkonen sitzt mittlerweile hinter dem Schlagzeug und der talentierte Voice Of Finland 2022-Finalist Paavo Laapotti konnte als Sänger gewonnen werden, während Juho Räihä (Swallow The Sun) - der seit 2006 bei BEFORE THE DAWN spielt - die Leadgitarre übernommen hat. Mit diesem starken Line Up haben die Finnen nun voll und ganz ihre neue Kraft erreicht und sind bereit, die Szene zurückzuerobern!
Soweit unsere Kollegen von Napalm Records… Kommen wir zu unserem Eindruck was das Album betrifft. Zehn Jahre Pause sind eine verdammt lange Zeit. Lohnt es da tatsächlich, auch wenn die Musik nicht zu sterben will, ein Comeback zu starten? Im Fall von Before the Dawn, lohnt es sich aber sowas von!
Die Band veröffentlichte in der Zeit von 1999, ihrer Gründung bis ins Jahr 2012 insgesamt acht Studioalben, rechnet man das im Jahr 2000 erschienene Demo Album mit. Ihre Veröffentlichungen waren durchweg erfolgreich, was das eigentliche Ende der Band irgendwie nicht so recht erklärte. Zu den Gründen der Auflösung sagte Gründer, Tuomas Saukkonen, seiner Zeit, dass es wichtiger war sich um seine zweite Band, Wolfheart, zu kümmern. Wie auch immer. Before the Dawn meldeten sich bereits 2021 zurück und verkündeten ihr anstehendes Comeback, welches nun in diesen Tagen mit dem Album Stormbringers vollendet wird. Diesen schritt werden mit Sicherheit nicht nur die eingefleischten Fans, sondern unter Garantie auch neue Hörer sehr begrüßen. Before the Dawn besinnen sich auch zehn Jahre später voll und ganz auf ihre Stärken und liefern mit Stormbringers eines ihrer stärksten Alben ab. So kann man das neue Album wohl schon jetzt als eine echte Bereicherung in der Szene bezeichnen. Volle Punktzahl von uns und viel Spaß gewünscht bei dieser wahren Sturmfahrt…
The comeback of the Finnish melodic metal pioneers BEFORE THE DAWN! After a ten-year hiatus, Finnish melodic death metal band BEFORE THE DAWN are back! Formed in 1999, BEFORE THE DAWN were one of the most successful Finnish metal bands of the early 2000s. Despite putting the project on hold in 2013, their music has been discovered by hundreds of thousands of new fans on streaming platforms, without any promotion or label support. Whether the music found the people or the people didn't like the music, after almost a decade BEFORE THE DAWN are now ending their hiatus and returning with new studio album Stormbringer - and stronger than ever! Originally the band was a solo project by Finnish Metal Award winner Tuomas Saukkonen (Wolfheart), but there have been several line-up changes over the years. With a completely new lineup, the band is currently facing their biggest change to date. Former guitarist and vocalist Saukkonen is now behind the drums and talented Voice Of Finland 2022 finalist Paavo Laapotti has been brought on as vocalist, while Juho Räihä (Swallow The Sun) - who has been with BEFORE THE DAWN since 2006 - has taken over lead guitar . With this strong line up, the Finns have fully reached their new power and are ready to take back the scene!
So much for our colleagues from Napalm Records... Let's come to our impression of the album. A ten year break is a hell of a long time. Is it really worth starting a comeback, even if the music doesn't want to die? In the case of Before the Dawn, it's so worth it!
The band released a total of eight studio albums in the period from 1999, when it was founded until 2012, including the demo album released in 2000. Their releases were consistently successful, which somehow didn't really explain the actual demise of the band. Founder, Tuomas Saukkonen, said of the reasons for the breakup that it was more important to take care of his second band, Wolfheart. However. Before the Dawn reported back in 2021 and announced their upcoming comeback, which will now be completed with the album Stormbringer. This step will certainly not only be welcomed by die-hard fans, but also by new listeners. Ten years later, Before the Dawn are still thinking about their strengths and deliver one of their strongest albums with Stormbringer. So you can already call the new album a real enrichment in the scene. Full marks from us and we wish you a lot of fun on this real storm ride...
