Über eine Band wie Candlemass muss man nichts oder kann man nichts mehr sagen, was nicht schon längst gesagt wurde. Die Band existiert nun seit sage und schreibe vierzig Jahren und hat den Doom Metal seit ihrer Gründung im Jahr 1984 entscheidend mitgeprägt. So kann man unter anderem mit dreizehn Studio und fünf Live Alben sowie nun vier EPs aufwarten. Ganz davon abgesehen welche Liveaktivitäten die Band in ihrer Geschichte zu präsentieren weiß und wusste. Zum Jubiläum nun präsentiert uns Candlemass ihre vierte EP mit Namen Black Star. Hierauf enthalten sind mit dem Titel Track und der Nummer, Corridors of Chaos, gleich zwei nagelneue Songs, die durch zwei Coverversionen abgerundet werden. Zum einen präsentiert man uns eine Eigeninterpretation des Black Sabbath Klassikers, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, die es echt in sich hat. Zum anderen covert man verdammt gekonnte den Song, Forever my Queen, von Pentagram und lässt somit auch diesen Klassiker noch einmal aufleben. Wenn das kein Jubiläumsgeschenk ist, dann frage ich mich ernsthaft, was den eines wäre. Mit den beiden neuen Nummer stellt man auf alle Fälle noch einmal unerschütterlich die einzigartige Klasse der Band da und zeigt, das selbst nach vierzig Jahren der Lack noch lange nicht ab ist. Danke meine Herren, da geht noch einiges in den nächsten Jahren und darauf darf man sich nun freuen.

There's nothing more to say about a band like Candlemass that hasn't already been said. The band has been around for no less than forty years and has had a decisive influence on doom metal since its foundation in 1984. The band can boast thirteen studio albums, five live albums and now four EPs. Not to mention the live activities the band has been able to present throughout its history. To mark the anniversary, Candlemass are now presenting their fourth EP, Black Star. It contains two brand new songs, the title track and the number Corridors of Chaos, which are rounded off with two cover versions. On the one hand, we are presented with their own interpretation of the Black Sabbath classic, Sabbath Bloody Sabbath, which really packs a punch. On the other hand, they cover the song, Forever my Queen, by Pentagram with great skill and thus revive this classic once again. If that's not an anniversary present, then I seriously wonder what would be. With the two new songs, the band's unique class is once again unwavering and shows that even after forty years, the paint is far from off. Thank you gentlemen, there's still a lot to come in the next few years and that's something to look forward to.
