Irgendwie scheint es seit einiger Zeit Gang und Gebe zu sein alte Hits und Gassenhauer neu aufzupolieren und zum Teil in völlig neuen Styles und musikrichtungen/Genres neu zu veröffentlichen. Ok, Covern ist nichts wirklich Neues, und doch fällt es auf, dass immer mehr Bands sich „Klassiker“ nehmen und diese in ein neues Gewand stecken. Hierbei geht es auch komischerweise meist um die Musik der Achtziger und Neunziger und dort dann besonders aus der Pop und Electro, Neuen Deutschen Welle oder gar Wave Szene. Verbessert mich gern, wenn nur ich den Anschein habe. Ein weiteres Beispiel ist das gerade erschienene neue Studiowerk der Gothic Dark Rock Metaler mt Namen, A Life Divided. Wem diese Formation nun nichts sagen sollte, dem sei kurz erklärt, dass es sich hier um das „Nebenprojekt“, von Eisbrecher Gitarrist, Jürgen Planger, der hier auch für die Vocals verantwortlich zeichnet, und ex Lacrimas Profundere Gitarrist, Tony Berger, handelt. Eben diese A Life Divided haben soeben ihr Cover Album mit Namen, Rewind veröffentlicht. Selbiges Album vereint, Songs der achtziger Jahre plus einer Eigenkomposition, namens Generator im, wie bereits erwähnt, neuen Gewand. Das A Life Divide Covern können, und dies sogar sehr beeindruckend, beweist nicht zu guter Letzt ihre Version des Alphaville Hits, Forever Young, welches die Band erstmals in ihrer Gründungszeit und später remastered veröffentlicht haben. Nun nimmt man sich Klassiker, wie Fade to Grey, Maniac, Here comes the Rain again oder auch Dancing with Tears in my Eyes und viele mehr vor und serviert diese im urtypischen A Life Divided Sound.
Ob A Life Divided ein solches Coveralbum nötig haben und ob sich der Aufwand lohnt, muss an dieser Stelle der Fan und werte Hörer wohl für sich selbst entscheiden. Wir auf alle Fälle finden die Versionen interessant, schon allein der Tatsache wegen, das hier bewiesen wird, dass die Klassiker nach wie vor funktionieren und auch durchaus als Rocksongs einen gewissen Flair besitzen.
Fazit: Experiment geglückt! Man sieht sich auf Tour und darf gespannt sein welche Songs von Rewind eventuell auch Live zu hören sein werden.

Somehow, it seems to have become common practice in recent times to revamp old hits and popular songs and re-release them, sometimes in completely new styles and musical genres. Okay, covering songs is nothing new, but it's striking that more and more bands are taking “classics” and giving them a new look. Strangely enough, this usually involves music from the eighties and nineties, particularly from the pop and electro, Neue Deutsche Welle, or even wave scenes. Please correct me if I'm the only one who thinks so. Another example is the recently released new studio album by the gothic dark rock metal band A Life Divided. For those who are unfamiliar with this band, it is a “side project” of Eisbrecher guitarist Jürgen Planger, who is also responsible for the vocals, and ex-Lacrimas Profundere guitarist Tony Berger. A Life Divided have just released their cover album called Rewind. This album combines songs from the 1980s plus an original composition called Generator in a new guise, as already mentioned. A Life Divided can cover songs, and very impressively so, as proven not least by their version of the Alphaville hit Forever Young, which the band first released when they were formed and later remastered. Now they take classics such as Fade to Grey, Maniac, Here Comes the Rain Again, Dancing with Tears in My Eyes, and many more and serve them up in the archetypal A Life Divided sound.
Whether A Life Divided needs such a cover album and whether it's worth the effort is something that fans and listeners will have to decide for themselves. In any case, we find the versions interesting, if only because they prove that the classics still work and also have a certain flair as rock songs.
Conclusion: Experiment successful! See you on tour, and we can't wait to hear which songs from Rewind might be played live.
