THE DEVILS wurden 2015 in Neapel, Italien, gegründet. Ihre ersten beiden Alben, Sin, You Sinners! (2016) und Iron Butt (2017) wurden von Jim Diamond (The White Stripes, The Sonics) produziert und von Voodoo Rhythm Records veröffentlicht. Seit 2016 sind sie regelmäßig mit über 500 Shows in ganz Europa, Großbritannien und Kanada auf Tour.
Gianni Blacula vergewaltigt die Gitarre und Erika Switchblade greift zum Schlagzeug. Die Devils verkörpern den ultimativen Sound des Chaos; Ihr Stil ist primitiv, voller Sex, Sünde und Rock’n’Roll. Sie sind wild, sehr laut und sexy. Sie benannten sich nach Ken Russels legendärem Film The Devils (1971).
Ihr drittes Album, Beast Must Regret Nothing (2021), wurde von Alain Johannes (QOTSA, Them Crooked Vultures, Chris Cornell, PJ Harvey) produziert und enthält Mark Lanegan als Leadsänger für „Devil Whistle Don't Sing“.
Soweit dann nun also der offizielle Teil zur hier, zu bewertender Band, bzw. zu ihrem gerade erschienenen vierten Studio Album.
Eigentlich, so schien es, war sich die Formation sicher, nach der Pandemie und dem in dieser schweren Zeit entstandenen dritten Studiowerk keine weiteren Alben mehr zu veröffentlichen. Zu schwer waren die Erinnerungen und Erfahrungen in und an diese Zeit. Doch irgendwie prägten auch genau diese Zustände und Erfahrungen den Willen, gerade jetzt, etwas neues zu schaffen. „All diese Qualen und Ernüchterungen gaben uns die Energie, wieder neue Songs zu schreiben, dank unseres Wunsches, neue musikalische Horizonte zu entdecken und in den letzten Jahren viele inspirierende Blues- und Soul-Hörungen zu machen. Let The World Burn Down ist allen Brüdern und Schwestern gewidmet, die genug von der Menschheit haben.“ So die Kampfansage der Band.
Genau aus dieser Ansage folgte nun also das vierte Studioalbum. Und selbiges kann sich als würdiger Nachfolger des bisherigen Werkes mehr als nur hören lassen. Zehn verdammte klassische Rock Nummern erwarten den Hörer und führen in eine Welt aus Rock und Emotionen. Der Sound selbst erinnert hier sehr stark an die wilden Siebziger, als die Welt noch „Frei“, Wild und irgendwie Grenzenlos schien. Der Rhythmus ist genau dieser, bei dem man einfach mit muss. Wie von selbst kriecht der Sound in die Beine und sorgt für automatisiertes Wippen der Füße bis der Körper tanzt. Mit den beiden Coverversionen von „Big City Lights“ von Cleo Randle (1966) und „Teddy Boy Boogie“ von Crazy Cavan ’n’ The Rhythm Rockers (1975), hier adaptiert in „Teddy Girl Boogie“, liegen dann dem Album auch gleich noch zwei Neuauflagen echter Klassiker aus genau dieser Zeit bei. Wer hier als echter Rockfan nicht auf seine Kosten kommt, hat meiner Meinung nach den Sound der Zeit irgendwie nicht erkannt.

Gianni Blacula raps the guitar and Erika Switchblade takes to the drums. The Devils embody the ultimate sound of chaos; Their style is primitive, full of sex, sin and rock 'n' roll. They are wild, very loud and sexy. They named themselves after Ken Russell's legendary film The Devils (1971).

So that's the official part about the band to be reviewed here, or about their just released fourth studio album.
Actually, it seemed, the formation was sure that after the pandemic and the third studio work, which was created during this difficult time, they would not release any more albums. The memories and experiences during this time were too heavy. But somehow exactly these conditions and experiences shaped the will to create something new, especially now. “All this torment and disillusionment gave us the energy to write new songs again, thanks to our desire to discover new musical horizons and to listen to many inspiring blues and soul songs in recent years. Let The World Burn Down is dedicated to all brothers and sisters who have had enough of humanity.” This is the band’s declaration of war.
The fourth studio album followed exactly from this announcement. And the same can be heard as a worthy successor to the previous work. Ten damn classic rock numbers await the listener and lead them into a world of rock and emotions. The sound itself is very reminiscent of the wild seventies, when the world still seemed “free”, wild and somehow limitless. The rhythm is exactly the one that you just have to follow. As if by itself, the sound creeps into your legs and causes your feet to tap automatically until your body dances. The two cover versions of “Big City Lights” by Cleo Randle (1966) and “Teddy Boy Boogie” by Crazy Cavan 'n' The Rhythm Rockers (1975), here adapted into “Teddy Girl Boogie”, are also on the same level as the album two new editions of real classics from exactly this time. Anyone who doesn't get their money's worth here as a real rock fan has, in my opinion, somehow not recognized the sound of the time.
