Ex Front-Frau und Sängerin der Symphonic Metaler, Delain, Charlotte Wessels, meldet sich nun endlich mit ihrem ersten Solo-Album zurück. Nachdem die charismatische Sängerin die Formation verlassen hatte, präsentierte sie sich zunächst mit ihren beiden Compilation-Alben, Tales From Six Feet Under und Tales From Six Feet Under Vol II. Beide enthalten Songs, die zunächst exklusiv ihrer loyalen Patreon-Community vorbehalten waren, bevor die Sammlungen 2021 und 2022 auch für die breite Öffentlichkeit physisch und digital zugänglich wurden. Nun kommt mit, The Obsession, ihr lang erwartetest und von Fans herbeigesehntes erstes Solo Album. Im Gegensatz zu den beiden Compilationen, bei denen Charlotte noch alles selbst einspielte, Vocals, Instrumentals, Arrangements, und in ihrem eigenen Studio aufnahm, spielen auf The Obsession nun auch reale Musiker, wie zum Beispiel einige ihrer ehemaligen Band-Kollegen und weitere Gast Musiker „Live“, was dem Album eine etwas andere Intensität und Härte verleiht. Das man bei Charlotte Wessels auf exzellenten Symphonic Metal trifft, dürfte jedem Hörer und Fan von Delain, bewusst sein. So bekommt man mit The Obsessions, zwölf echte Klassiker des Genres serviert. Hierbei verlässt man sich aber nicht etwa nur auf gefühlvolle, symphonische Klänge, nein, man geht auch schon mal mit verdammt harten Riffs an den Start. Gitarren Riffs, die genauso wie der unverwechselbare Gesang von Charlotte, die unter die Haut gehen, mischen sich mit wummernden Drum und Bass Linien. Für die Harmonie sorgen dann Keyboards, Cello und Hammond Orgel. Passt also alles perfekt.
Zustände wie Angst, Zwangsgedanken und Eskapismus sind auf The Obsession allgegenwärtig. Das Album weiß aber über die gesamte Spielzeit zu unterhalten und wirkt dabei auch noch verdammt abwechslungsreich, was es schon jetzt zu einem kleinen Juwel der Szene machen dürfte.
Alles richtig gemacht. Somit vergeben wir mal wieder volle Punktzahl und die Kaufempfehlung. Man darf auch bereits auf die Livepräsentation des Materials gespannt sein. Charlotte Wessels geht nämlich noch 2024 auf ausgedehnte Tour durch Europa. Wir wünschen schon jetzt beste Unterhaltung beim hören des Albums und bei den späteren Shows.

Former front woman and singer of symphonic metal band Delain, Charlotte Wessels, is finally back with her first solo album. After the charismatic singer left the band, she initially presented herself with her two compilation albums, Tales From Six Feet Under and Tales From Six Feet Under Vol II. Both contain songs that were initially reserved exclusively for her loyal Patreon community before the collections became physically and digitally available to the general public in 2021 and 2022. Now comes The Obsession, her long-awaited and fan-anticipated first solo album. In contrast to the two compilations, on which Charlotte recorded everything herself, vocals, instrumentals, arrangements, and in her own studio, The Obsession now also features real musicians, such as some of her former band colleagues and other guest musicians “live”, which gives the album a slightly different intensity and hardness. Every listener and fan of Delain should be aware that Charlotte Wessels plays excellent symphonic metal. With The Obsessions, you are served twelve true classics of the genre. However, they don't just rely on soulful, symphonic sounds, no, they also start with some damn hard riffs. Guitar riffs that get under your skin, just like Charlotte's unmistakable vocals, are mixed with booming drum and bass lines. Keyboards, cello and Hammond organ provide the harmony. So everything fits perfectly.
States such as anxiety, obsessive thoughts and escapism are omnipresent on The Obsession. However, the album knows how to entertain over its entire playing time and is also damned varied, which should already make it a little gem in the scene.
Everything done right. So once again we give it full marks and a recommendation to buy. You can also look forward to the live presentation of the material. Charlotte Wessels will be going on an extensive tour of Europe in 2024. We hope you enjoy listening to the album and the subsequent shows.
