D.A.D. – Speed of Darkness

Es ist immer schwer über Legenden zu schreiben. Es wurde meist bereits alles geschrieben oder gesagt, was man eben schreiben oder sagen kann und konnte. So stehe ich nun auch einmal mehr vor der Aufgabe etwas über eine Band und ihr neustes Werk zu verfassen. Die Band um die es geht, gründete sich bereits 1982 unter dem Namen Disneyland After Dark, musste sich aber schon sehr bald auf Grund einer drohenden Klage des Walt Disney Konzerns zu D.A.D. umbenennen. Nun, also über vierzig Jahre später stehen die vier Herren, von denen zumindest zwei aus der Gründerzeit stammen, da, mit einem weiteren neuen Album im Gepäck. Album Nummer Dreizehn deutet aber ganz im Gegenteil das nahende Ende der Band an. Auch wenn man sich über die Jahre hinweg nicht immer einig war, so ist es wohl doch gerade mit dem neuen Werk so, dass man genau jetzt einen echten Neuanfang innerhalb einer seit so vielen Jahren existierenden Band gefunden hat. So sagen die Mitglieder völlig unabhängig von einander, das es eine harte Arbeit darstellte die neuen Stücke zu kreieren und zu produzieren, aber das man mit dem schlussendlichen Ergebnis, mehr als nur zufrieden sei. Es passt einfach alles und ist ein großartiges Werk mit insgesamt vierzehn neunen Nummern geworden. Bedenkt man dabei, dass im Entstehungsprozess allerdings gut und gern vierzig Songs entstanden sind, kann man sich in etwa vorstellen, was da noch an Potenzial auch nach so langer Zeit im Geschäft vorhanden ist. D.A.D. präsentieren sich von ihrer besten Seite und zelebrieren auf dem neuen Werk erneut ihren ganz eigenen Style an Melodic Hard Rock Songs. Der Fan bekommt somit genau das was er erwartet und noch so viel mehr. Instrumental perfekt, begleitet durch den unverkennbaren Gesang eines bestens gelaunten, Jesper Binzer. Das neue Werk, Speed of Darkness, welches als Doppelalbum bei AFM Records, gerade veröffentlicht wurde macht verdammt viel Spaß und strotzt nur so vor Energie. Ein verdammt gutes Zeichen dafür, dass es auch nach über vierzig Jahren im Musikgeschäft noch möglich ist weiter zu gehen und neues zu schaffen. Und das neue Werk heizt auch gleich ein wenig vor und steigert die Vorfreude auf die kommenden Live Termine, der, wie sie sich selbst nennen, „alten Herren“. Von wegen Alt, davon ist auf dem neuen Werk keine Spur zu vernehmen. Volle Punktzahl von uns. Wir sehen uns auf Tour !

It is always difficult to write about legends. Usually everything that can and could be written or said has already been written or said. So once again I am faced with the task of writing something about a band and their latest work. The band in question formed back in 1982 under the name Disneyland After Dark, but soon had to change their name to D.A.D. due to the threat of a lawsuit from the Walt Disney Group. Now, over forty years later, the four gentlemen, at least two of whom are from the founding period, are back with another new album. On the contrary, album number thirteen hints at the approaching end of the band. Even if they haven't always been in agreement over the years, the new album seems to indicate that they have now found a real new beginning within a band that has existed for so many years. The members say, completely independently of each other, that it was hard work to create and produce the new songs, but that they are more than satisfied with the final result. Everything just fits and it has become a great work with a total of fourteen new songs. Considering that a good forty songs were created during the production process, you can imagine what potential is still there even after such a long time in the business. D.A.D. present themselves from their best side and once again celebrate their very own style of melodic hard rock songs on the new album. The fan gets exactly what he expects and so much more. Instrumentally perfect, accompanied by the unmistakable vocals of a very cheerful Jesper Binzer. The new work, Speed of Darkness, which has just been released as a double album on AFM Records, is a hell of a lot of fun and bursting with energy. A damn good sign that even after more than forty years in the music business, it is still possible to move on and create something new. And the new work also heats things up a bit and increases the anticipation for the upcoming live dates of the, as they call themselves, “old men”. Old, you won't hear a trace of it on the new album. Full marks from us. See you on tour!
