VOODOO CIRCLE – Hail tot he King

Warum eigentlich immer nur einen bereits erfolgreichen Song oder gar ein ganzes Album covern, wenn man doch gleich einem ganzen Jahrzehnt und mehr huldigen kann? Warum sollte man sich denn unbedingt an alten Hymnen und Klassikern vergreifen, wenn man es so schön selbst auf die Ketten bekommt? Wenn man Vorbilder wie die unverwechselbaren Whitesnake, Deep Purple, Rainbow oder Led Zeppelin hat, und sich von selbigen inspiriert fühlt, warum sollte man dann nicht genau dieser Musik Tribut zollen und ein Album produzieren, welches genau im Style der genannten Bands daher kommt? Genug der Fragezeichen, mit Voodoo Circle und ihrem gerade erschienenen neuen Studioalbum, Hail tot he King, bekommt ihr nämlich alle Antworten frei Haus serviert. Die Songs klingen nach der guten alten Zeit und sind doch so modern. Der Gesang klingt wie ein Doppelgänger des guten alten David Coverdale, und das aufkommende Gefühl, beim hören der insgesamt zwölf Songs, reißt den Hörer buchstäblich sofort zurück in die Zeit des guten alten, mittlerweile klassischen Heavy Metal und Hard Rock. Herrlich! So, und „fast“ nur so, macht „covern“ verdammt viel Spaß. Wobei hier nicht ein einziger Song ein Cover Song ist. Alles was ihr hier hört sind neue Songs.
Allerdings mit zwei kleinen Ausnahmen, die eine eigene Story haben…
Die Geschichte von ‚Hail To The King‘ beinhaltet eine besonders erwähnenswerte Anekdote: Zwei der zwölf Stücke stammen aus der Feder des ehemaligen Rainbow-Keyboarders Tony Carey. Beyrodt blickt fast 25 Jahre zurück: „Anfang der Neunziger waren wir bei Tony im Studio, um Songs für ein Sinner-Album aufzunehmen. Darunter befanden sich mit ‚All For One‘ und ‚Billy`s Song‘ zwei Carey-Kompositionen, die seinerzeit nur in Japan veröffentlicht wurden. Ich erinnere mich noch genau, wie ich als Mitzwanziger kaum glauben konnte, mit einer Legende wie Carey im Aufnahmeraum zu stehen und mitzuerleben, wie er für uns Hammond Orgel spielt und dabei seine Mähne schüttelt. Beide Songs hatte ich seither immer im Hinterkopf und wartete nur auf eine passende Gelegenheit, sie noch einmal aufzunehmen. Und da ich für ‚Hail To The King‘ auch auf mein Rainbow-Herz hören wollte, war dies nun der perfekte Zeitpunkt.“
Wer die im Jahr 2008 gegründete Formation bereits kennt, weiß was ihn erwartet. Und wer es eben noch nicht weiß, dem kann man nur das neue Studioalbum, welches die Nummer sieben im Katalog darstellt, nur wärmstens empfehlen. Aber Vorsicht, nach den Hörgenuss ist vor dem Hörgenuss, denn ich kann schon jetzt sagen , dass sich der eine oder andere neue Hörer sicherlich davon anstecken lassen wird und sich auch den Rest des Band Kataloges zulegen wird.
Ansonsten bleibt an dieser Stelle nur noch zu erwähnen, das sich Voodoo Circle gerade auf Tour befinden um ihre neuen Songs auch live zu präsentieren. Wir wüschen auf alle Fälle mega viel Vergnügen beim Hören und Sehen….

Why only ever cover one already successful song or even an entire album when you can pay homage to an entire decade or more? Why should you necessarily go for old anthems and classics when you can do it so well yourself? If you have role models like the unmistakable Whitesnake, Deep Purple, Rainbow or Led Zeppelin and feel inspired by them, why not pay tribute to this music and produce an album in the style of these bands? Enough question marks, with Voodoo Circle and their recently released new studio album, Hail to the King, you get all the answers for free. The songs sound like the good old days and yet are so modern. The vocals sound like a doppelganger of good old David Coverdale, and the feeling that arises when listening to the twelve songs literally takes the listener back to the days of good old, now classic heavy metal and hard rock. Wonderful! In this way, and “almost” only in this way, “covering” is a hell of a lot of fun. But not a single song here is a cover song. Everything you hear here are new songs.
With two small exceptions, however, which have their own story...
The story of 'Hail To The King' contains a particularly noteworthy anecdote: two of the twelve tracks were penned by former Rainbow keyboardist Tony Carey. Beyrodt looks back almost 25 years: “At the beginning of the nineties we were in Tony's studio to record songs for a Sinner album. Among them were 'All For One' and 'Billy's Song', two Carey compositions that were only released in Japan at the time. I can still clearly remember how, in my mid-twenties, I could hardly believe that I was standing in the recording room with a legend like Carey and watching him play Hammond organ for us while shaking his mane. Both songs have been in the back of my mind ever since, just waiting for the right opportunity to record them again. And since I also wanted to listen to my Rainbow heart for 'Hail To The King', this was the perfect time.”
Anyone who already knows the band, which was founded in 2008, knows what to expect. And for those who don't yet know, the new studio album, which is number seven in the catalog, can only be warmly recommended. But beware, after the listening pleasure is before the listening pleasure, because I can already say that one or the other new listener will certainly be infected by it and will also buy the rest of the band's catalog.
Apart from that, the only thing left to mention at this point is that Voodoo Circle are currently on tour to present their new songs live. In any case, we hope you enjoy listening and watching....
