Sphärischer Schönheit und filmische Intensität: Das Tolkien-inspirierte Projekt von Martijn Westerholt (Delain) und Johanna Kurkela (Auri)!
Um dieses wahrlich opulente Werk zu beschreiben und zu verstehen, beginnen wir unsere Rezension diesmal mit einer Einleitung des neuen Labels von, Eye of Melian, nämlich, Napalm Records…
EYE OF MELIAN stoßen mit Forest of Forgetting das Tor zu einer anderen Welt auf – das neue Album erscheint am 20. Februar 2026 über Napalm Records. Nach einem mächtigen, zaubergesangskundigen Urgeschöpf aus der Welt von J. R. R. Tolkien benannt, folgen EYE OF MELIAN dem Meister der Fantastik und erweitern sein zeitloses Konzept. Von Delains Martijn Westerholt erschaffen und um Johanna Kurkela von Auri als Sängerin ergänzt, ist Forest of Forgetting ein Meisterwerk des symphonischen Songwritings, so zauberhaft romantisch, dass die wahre Welt in Vergessenheit gerät.
Eigentlich ist hiermit schon beinahe alles gesagt, und doch fehlt noch so unendlich viel. Mit Gastmusikern wie, Background-Sängerin und Texterin Robin La Joy, Patty Gurdy oder auch Bruce Dickinson, der im ursprünglich 1994 auf Balls To Picasso erschienen Song, „Tears of the Dragon“, noch einmal zu hören ist und hier den Weg in Richtung Heavy Metal ebnet. Vervollständigt wird das zwölf Songs beinhaltende Werk, welches auf einer zweiten CD noch einmal alle elf neuen Songs in einer Instrumentalen Version aufweisen kann, von Orchesterarrangeur Mikko P. Mustonen.
So ist, Forest of Forgetting eine Reise durch die Zeit und Traumwelt, die für Spannung und gleichzeitig Entspannung sorgt. Das Album führt weit weg in ein Land voller abenteuer und Fantasien, hin zu einer whren Entspannung in den doch so wirren Zeiten, in denen wir leben. Der Altmeister der Fantasien wäre mit Sicherheit begeistert.

EYE OF MELIAN open the gate to another world with Forest of Forgetting – the new album will be released on February 20, 2026, via Napalm Records. Named after a powerful, enchanting primordial creature from the world of J. R. R. Tolkien, EYE OF MELIAN follow the master of fantasy and expand his timeless concept. Created by Delain's Martijn Westerholt and featuring Johanna Kurkela from Auri on vocals, Forest of Forgetting is a masterpiece of symphonic songwriting, so enchantingly romantic that the real world fades into oblivion.
Actually, that pretty much says it all, and yet so much more remains unsaid. With guest musicians such as background singer and lyricist Robin La Joy, Patty Gurdy, and Bruce Dickinson, who can be heard once again on the song “Tears of the Dragon,” originally released in 1994 on Balls To Picasso, paving the way for heavy metal. The twelve-song work, which includes an instrumental version of all eleven new songs on a second CD, is completed by orchestral arranger Mikko P. Mustonen.
Forest of Forgetting is a journey through time and the world of dreams, providing both excitement and relaxation. The album takes you far away to a land full of adventure and fantasy, offering true relaxation in the turbulent times in which we live. The old master of fantasy would certainly be delighted.
