Wenn es eine echte Institution in Sachen New Wave of British Heavy Metal gibt, dann dürften Tygers of Pan Tang wohl ohne Frage dazugehören. Seit 1978, dem Jahr ihrer Gründung treiben die Tygers nun ihr „Unwesen“ in der Hard Rock und Heavy Metal Szene und waren ein entscheidender Teil der NWoBHM Bewegung in den achtziger Jahren. Ihre unverwechselbare Art, Bands wie Black Sabbath und Deep Purple mit Punk-Rock, zu vereinen und selbige Stilrichtungen mit den neuen riffs des damals aufkommenen Heavy Metal zu kombinieren, machten sie sehr schnell zu einer der ganz großen der Szene. Das Debüt, Wildcat, zählt seit Erscheinen als Meilenstein. Obowhl sich die Band bereits 1983 offiziell aufgelöst hatte, folgten in den nächsten Jahren immer wieder kleinere Auftritte und von 1985 bis 1987 sogar der erste Versuch einer Neuauflage der Band. Unter anderem trat man beim Wacken Open Air im Jahr 1999 auf. Erst 2001 besann sich Gründungs-Gitarrist, Rob Weir, dazu die Band tatsächlich wieder ins Leben zu rufen. Mittlerweile ist viel Zeit ins Land gegangen und Mr. Weir steht weiterhin, als einziges verbliebenes Ur-Mitglied an der Gitarre der Tygers of Pan Tang.
Heute nun erscheint das vierzehnte Studioalbum, welches somit den Katalog, zu dem außerdem, jeweils fünf Livealben und EP’s gehören, um ein weiteres erweitert.
Electrifyed setzt genau da an, wo seine Vorgänger endeten. Hatte sich der Ursprüngliche harte Sound der Band zwar 1983 mit dem doch sehr kommerziell klingenden, The Cage und den beiden Nachfolgern, The Wreck Age und Burning in the Shade von 1985 bzw. 1987, stark geändert, so riss Rob Weir ab 2001 das Ruder wieder herum und ging Back to the Roots. Genau hier stehen Tygers of Pan Tang auch noch im Jahr 2026 und präsentieren mit ihrem neuen Album, Lupenreinen Hard Rock und Heavy Metal der an die guten alten Zeiten erinnert und anschließt. Elf neue Nummern erwarten den Fan und interessierten Hörer. Tygers of Pan Tang klingen 2026 irgendwie nach den alten achtziger Jahren, die eine große Frischzellenkur erfahren haben und somit bestens in unser Jahrhundert passen.
Electrifyed ist somit eben nicht nur ein Album für alteingesessene Fans, die das Album ohne hin feiern werden, sonder auch für die neue Generation der Hard and Heavy Fraktion.
Wir vergeben mal 9,5 Punkte für ein durchweg starkes Album, welches sich in die Reihe echter Klassiker dieser Band einreiht.
Es macht immer wieder Spaß, die alten Helden musizieren zu hören. Hoffentlich bleibt uns dieses Vergnügen noch einige Jahre erhalten.

Since their formation in 1978, the Tygers have been making their mark on the hard rock and heavy metal scene, playing a pivotal role in the NWoBHM movement of the 1980s. Their distinctive approach—fusing the styles of bands like Black Sabbath and Deep Purple with punk rock and blending these elements with the fresh riffs of the emerging heavy metal sound—quickly propelled them to the forefront of the scene. Their debut album, *Wildcat*, has been hailed as a milestone since its release. Although the band officially disbanded in 1983, sporadic smaller performances followed in the ensuing years, including an initial attempt at a reunion between 1985 and 1987; notably, they performed at Wacken Open Air in 1999. It was not until 2001 that founding guitarist Rob Weir decided to truly bring the band back to life. Much time has passed since then, and Mr. Weir remains the sole original member, continuing to play guitar for Tygers of Pan Tang.
Today marks the release of their fourteenth studio album, adding another entry to a catalog that also includes five live albums and five EPs.
*Electrifyed* picks up exactly where its predecessors left off. While the band’s original heavy sound had shifted significantly in 1983 with the highly commercial-sounding *The Cage*—and the two subsequent albums, *The Wreck Age* (1985) and *Burning in the Shade* (1987)—Rob Weir steered the ship back on course starting in 2001, returning to the band's roots. This is exactly where Tygers of Pan Tang find themselves in 2026, presenting a new album of pure hard rock and heavy metal that both evokes and continues the legacy of the good old days. Eleven new tracks await fans and interested listeners alike. In 2026, Tygers of Pan Tang sound like the 1980s—but revitalized and refreshed, making them a perfect fit for the current era.
